May be worth asking makaveliseven, he's been building one for a while so would have done his homework on it, Mazworks do conversion parts so worth dropping them an email aswel?

sr20vet head

Empty PocketsMay 11, Yeah I've seen mazworks do the conversion parts I've already asked about them finding me a head as well. I'm just getting all the parts ready for the track car and I'm now stuck with if I should ve the head or not? When i was interested at the time i planned to go ve if mine didn't work out. Pretty much as Russ says; drill out the dowels and head studs for GTiR item, VE inlet manifold or custom job, run external oil feed to the head use the g-spec kit, much better value than mazworx The only other thing is that if you want to run anything other than the 20VE cams you will need VE specific pistons with appropriate reliefs, otherwise you'll end up with pistons hitting valves.

It is not the instant bolt on power than a lot of the guys in the US would have you believe, I am doing it to give me the flexibility with tuning to create the engine characteristic I want.

As far as I was aware Honda was using Vtec in the late 80s well before nissan brought out Neo vvl in the 90s.

As for crossover it's pretty much the same as vtec aspecialy in the SR16VEs. Although they did take the title of highest hp 1. Even then wasn't all that good having even less of a torque band than hondas with such a sort stroke crank. Have been looking into it alot lately as a VZR pulsar came up local I was considering buying. I hear the SR16VEs heads and cams are the ones to have as are better flowing and more aggressive cams. Would have thought they both fit as they both share the same 86mm sr20 block.

Not only were the bore clearance almost double than recommended, the bores were also tapered and out of round. Due to heavy damage of the main stud threads, the block was mounted in a 2-axis CNC machine and all threads repaired using Time-sert thread repair system. Engine bearings were heavily worn and most likely reused during engine rebuild. Engine was advertised with a set of Brian Crower degree camshaft and they turned out to be Brian Crower degree camshafts.

Stock valve springs and retainers used with high lift camshafts. Cylinder head was completely stock with worn intake and exhaust valve guides. All valve guides were replaced and exhaust converted to 6mm stems, in lea of standard 7mm stems. Valve guides honed using a Goodson diamond hone and seats recut using a Serdi cutting system. All valve springs validated using a Rimac valve spring tester. After final assembly camshafts were degreed as per manufacturer instructions.

This is critical to do since both the block and cylinder head were machined, affecting final valve and ignition timing. How much did all this cost? Love to hear back with some information. The engine will require extensive work and maintenance. Regards, Pavel.

Could you please send me information as well.

It has an aluminum head and block with steel sleeves and has a DOHC 4-valve design, with variable valve timing on select models. The engine was used in many small to medium Nissan vehicles including high-performance turbocharged variants. It was designed by Nissan as a replacement for the earlier CA series of engines. The 1. These cars were tuned by Autech Japan. This is also claimed to be the most powerful production 1.

The SR18Di is a 1. This model used some cast iron blocks and it was used on the P10 generation Nissan Primerabut due to the low overall power this engine option was dropped on the next generation. The SR18DE is a 1. The SR18DE crankshaft was produced with four fewer counterweights than the SR20DE variants, which have eight, for lighter weight and better fuel efficiency.

These lightweight crankshafts were also homologated for use in the Japanese N2 Silvia racing program and later used in the SR20VE engine. The SR20Di is a 2. Similar to the 1. It first appeared in Octoberand over time it was gradually phased out with the introduction of the QR low-emissions engine family.

Chances are we can do it!VVL varies the duration, and lift of valves by using hydraulic pressure switch between two different sets of camshaft lobes. There have been two main versions of this engine. This engine was used by Nissan from to Although, in automotive terms, '20V' would normally be interpreted as having twenty valves, this is incorrect.

The name '20V' is the name of the trim level of the Nissan Primera that it is found in. It is also a shortened version of the name SR20VE.

This engine has 16 valves like the rest of the SR20 engines. The crankshaft has a shorter stroke, which lowers the displacement, but allows the engine to safely rev to higher RPM. Although this engine has 1. The camshafts from this engine are considered to be an upgrade for SR20VE owners.

They were only sold in Japan. Nissan 's technical information about this engine states that it is compression ratiobut it really adds up to 8. On the SR20VEthe intake camshaft is switched at rpm, and the exhaust at rpm. However this trait was not included on the newer '20V' version, as both camshafts engage at the same RPM. Straight-3 HR UD.In part one of our engine build series, we did a quick overview on the anatomy of our record breaking engine dubbed the SR15VET 20V. We had crushed a land speed record by 30 MPH but now only had a month before Speed Week to resolve our head issues.

It was truly bitter sweet. Thanks Clark.

With a good port and polish job, the SR20VE head can yield flow numbers in the same neighborhood as a ported Honda K series head. Naturally, a port and polish job is where Nick Hunter began the evolution of our replacement 20V cylinder head.

On the intake side, the injector area was blended into the port roof and the port entrance gasket matched. Then the port divider was knife edged and the port gradually tapered down towards the bowl. In both the intake and exhaust ports, the valve guides were ground near flush to improve flow. To round out the headwork, the seats were cut with a fresh valve job and the area around each valve was de-shrouded. With the port and polish job complete, there was one last bit of modification that needed to be performed before our SR20VE 20V cylinder head could be assembled.

Nick Hunter plugged this passage by drilling a. A stainless steel socket head plug was then threaded in place.

Nissan was nice enough to have already placed a threaded hole here for us to use as a pilot. Just drill this hole deeper and it will intersect the factory oil passage.

The second option is to drill a hole and weld a bung directly onto the VVL solenoid. This is what we chose to do with the first head. With the head work complete, Nick Hunter began to focus on the installation of the valves, retainers, and springs.

In this case, more is not necessarily better. This buries spring stress risers further inside of the spring while effectively increasing spring tension. To further reduce the likelihood of stress risers, Nissan also paid special attention to the surface finish of the spring. While mere mortals would spend hours installing the valve spring retainers, an immortal zombie vampire has a bag of toys to make this stuff look easy.

The next step on the list was installing the rocker arm assembly. Note the larger third journal located in between the two outside journals.

What is this voodoo magic? It must be V-TEC, yo. Remember the steel braided line we routed from the oil pump to the VVL solenoid? In doing so, oil is sent down the length of a long, hollow rocker arm shaft, which spans the cylinder head. Each rocker arm is mounted to this rocker shaft and oil is delivered to it via the hole inside the bore of the rocker arm.

Oil pressure then acts on the backside of a VVL activation pin which drives it outwards. When the pin moves outwards, it pivots a foot which locks in place underneath the high lobe portion of the rocker arm. In the locked position, the middle journal of the rocker arm engages the larger cam lobe that is located in between the two small cam lobes.

The large cam lobe profile results in increased valve lift. Got it? Now back to the build…. If we ran the dual solenoid set up which comes on the early model VVL engines, locking out the exhaust rocker would be as easy as using the RPM switching feature of our Turbosmart E-boost Street boost controller.

However, without using a remote solenoid plate, the 20V single solenoid is the only other bolt on option that leaves clearance between the head and firewall.
